Many a great scientific discovery has been revealed during the course of testing, research and development of completely unrelated medicinal applications. For example, a JD Searle Company scientist discovered the sweet taste of aspartame while researching a new ulcer drug. Pfizer developed Viagra® originally as a heart medication.
